A GEORGE III SILVER SOUP TUREEN
The base, probably London, 1784
Of oval boat shape with two upswept reeded and foliate-clad loop handles, raised on domed pedestal base, profusely (later) chased all-over with flowers, foliage, fruit and birds, all on a matte ground within beaded borders, marked on the upper part near the rim, lacking maker's mark; the domed cover with a foliate border, chased with similar decoration and with foliate loop handle, unmarked.
Length across handles, 20in. (51cm.); weight of cover and base, 120oz.
