Designed as two realistically cast, carved, and chased bearded bogatyrs holding a bow and a large axe amongst their weaponry, standing behind a large marble block with a clock in the Pan-Slavic style hanging above, fully marked

Lot Essay

The above mantel clock is a pure example of the Pan-Slavic style which developed amongst Russian silversmiths in Moscow at the end of the 19th Century.
The expression of the bogatyrs on this clock are very reminiscent of the ones painted by the artist Victor Vasnetsov.
