A GOLD OPEN FACED VERGE CALENDAR POCKET WATCH WITH INTERESTING PROVENANCE
French, circa 1800.
dial with engraved silvered mask, visible balance with pierced cock, subsidiary white enamel meantime, day and date dials, full plate gilt fusee movement with foliate engraved backplate, plain polished drum case, diameter 52mm.

Further details
This watch belonged to a French officer, Louis Ambroise Quantin, Lieutent du L'44th Regt du Corps Imperial d'Artillerie de Marine who served under Napoleon. He was imprisoned at Princetown and released on parole at Moretonhampstead where he died aged 33 on 29th April 1810. The watch was purchased in 1929 at the sale of the contents of "Kistor View" Nr. Chagford which was the property in which the officer lived whilst on parole.
