The bronzier Henry Vian specialised exclusively in gilt-bronze, especially light fittings, producing articles of the highest quality, so much that the style of casting and gilding can often be mistaken for earlier work. He is recorded in Pierre Verlet, Les bronzes dorés Français du XVIIIe siècle, Picard, Paris, 1987, pp. 342 and 344.

This is a copy of the celebrated model by Feuchère, now in the Musée Nissim de Camondo, Paris.
