A GREEK BRONZE VOTIVE GROUP OF BIRDS AND A MONKEY
GEOMETRIC PERIOD, SECOND HALF OF 8TH CENTURY B.C.
Comprising a cylindrical finial with four vertical columns of studs surmounted by a stylized seated monkey with elbows resting on bent knees, hands to its snout, right forearm missing, 3½ in. (8.8 cm.) high; a group of six stylized birds, each standing on an openwork cage, 5 to 23/8 in. (12.7 to 6 cm.) high; another bird atop a four-legged base, 21/8 in. (5.3 cm.) high; five single standing birds, two with crests, 17/8 in. (4.6 cm.) high max.; and three further stylized bird-like creatures, two surmounting openwork cages, another atop a sphere, 3¼ in. (8.2 cm.) high max., all pierced for suspension (16)

Acquired by the grandfather of the present owner in the late 19th Century.
