The foliate cap above a lotus-bud knob and a pierced chain above a further knob issuing six scrolling branches suspending a fleur-de-lys rim and, the hexagonal body with an 'M' inscribed in a cartouche to each top above pierced foliate scrolling spandrels and foliate bosses to each angle base with foliate scrolling bands, above the lower tapering section with conforming scrolls and bands, the base with hexagonal plate, the centre with two light-fixtures, various panes cracked, made for electricity

Lot Essay

Percy Macquoid (d.1925) was the best known of the first generation of furniture historians and author of A History of English Furniture 1904-1918, four volumes, and co-wrote the first edition of The Dictionary of English Furniture with Ralph Edwards, three volumes in 1924.
