A PAIR OF LATE VICTORIAN CHESTERFIELD SOFAS
Each covered in deep-buttoned foliate material on a cream and red ground, with roundel rectangular back and outscrolled arms, the bottom with red and green tasseled fringe, on turned walnut feet, with brass castors stamped 'COPE'S PATENT', one sofa stamped '8207', the other '7821'
one 84½ in. (214.5 cm.) wide; the other 83 in. (211 cm.) wide (2)
Provenance
Supplied to Edward Cecil Guiness, 1st Earl of Iveagh (d. 1927) for Elveden Hall, Thetford, Norfolk.
Thence by descent at Elveden to the 3rd Earl of Iveagh, Christie's house sale, 24 May 1984, probably lots 1377 and 1411.

The sofas are not a pair. The upholstery of the seats and front of the seats is different, and the sofas have different feet. As stated in the catalogue the widths are different (approx. 1½ in. (4 cm.) difference).
