This form of eagle-supported and marble-topped table featured on a printed billhead of 1739, issued by Francis Brodie, cabinet-maker of Edinburgh (F.Bamford, A Dictionary of Edinburgh Wrights and Furniture Makers 1660-1840, Leeds, 1983, pl. 24B). A related table with Viturvian-scrolled cornice and tablet was acquired by the Victoria and Albert Museum, in 1945, (D. Fitz-Gerald, Georgian Furniture, London, 1969, no. 27; W.21-1945).
