A Japanese stained ivory tusk section vase
carved continuously in relief with the seven sages of the sea, holding fish, double gourds, mallets and fans within waves, the reverse carved with a building, waves, bands of shells and flowering trees, metal mount, standing on a carved and pierced hardwood stand decorated with scrolling foliage, adapted for electricity -- the tusk 15½in. (39.3cm.) high, signed, early 20th Century, (very minor cracks).
