The rosewood table, with its rectangular shaft enriched with brass-flutes and acanthus and Grecian-scrolled 'claw', relates to French 'buhl' furniture such as that executed by the immigrant Louis Constantin Le Gaigneur, who established his Edgware Road manufacutory about 1815. A very similar table, but with brass-rimed top, was formerly in the Ionides collection and was sold by a descendant, Phillips, London, 13 June 1995, lot 114.
