A Japanese four-case black lacquer ground inro
decorated in gold and red takamaki-e and hiramaki-e with a lady rising in a cloud of smoke issuing from scrolls and a brushpot, the reverse with a peacock feather and a flower spray, inlaid with turquoise, coral and mother-of-pearl, the interior in nashiji, wood ojimi and carved ivory netsuke in the form of a man with a bag over his shoulder -- 33/8in. (8.6cm.) high, 19th Century, (minor wear).
