The bold design of this kanat is one which appears in a number of chintz panels held by various institutions. These chintzes appear in the 17th and 18th centuries with minor variations in design and quality. This example is drawn in a larger scale than the examples cited below. The design is a classic version of the Mughal poppy. Comparable examples are held by the Calico Museum in Ahmedabad, India, Reference No 801, Irwin & Hall, 1971, pl.10. A further related example from a private collection was exhibited in the Victoria & Albert Museum, 21 April-22 August 1981, illustrated in the exhibition catalogue, 'The Indian Heritage, Court life and Arts under Moghal Rule', no. 212, p85. AEDTA 'Le Motif Floral dans les Tissus Moghuls', plate 3 shows a kanat from what appears to be the same set, of smaller size. Panels of a very similar design and be seen on plate 2 of the same publication.
