A QUEEN ANNE JAPANNED CABINET-ON-CHEST
Decorated overall with Chinese scenes of figures and creatures within garden landscapes, and the sides with poppies, the double domed cavetto cornice above a pair of gabelled doors with bevelled mirror plate, with engraved brass hinges, the reverse of the doors depicting, mythical creatures and foliate borders, enclosing nine drawers, above two short drawers and three long graduated drawers on Georgian bracket feet, previously with bun feet, one plate replaced, restorations and some losses to the decoration

Lot Essay

The trellis pattern underneath the double-domed cornice is similar to that of a George I black, silver and gilt-lacquer cabinet sold in these Rooms, 15 November 1990, lot 116. A further William and Mary double-dome japanned cabinet-on-chest was offered, Sotheby's 6 July 1990, lot 38.
