Madras Ship Letters (Despatch)
"1/3" then "4/4" and inscribed (in a different hand from the address) "Double Postage Paid", the address panel showing framed "LONDON/SHIP LETTER" and "POSTAGE TO LONDON/NOT PAID", the reverse with very fine framed script type "Eur:/d'ble S. Pgte" (HG SD1) just overlapped by London transit datestamps; fine. The writer erroneously believed that the weight of the letter determined the postage cost and starts his message with "I have written my letter on China paper, in order that it may be comprised in as small a bulk as possible".
