A MEISSEN 'JEWELLED' AND ENAMELLED COBALT-BLUE GROUND BALUSTER VASE
Mid 19th century, blue crossed swords mark, incised T. 159. and impressed 98, probably by Leuteritz
Finely enamelled in the manner of Limoges with Venus seated amongst clouds attended by two putti bearing roses, a pair of billing doves at her feet, the neck and foot gilt with rocaille scrollwork enclosing trellis and pale-blue enamelled diaper

See Antoinette Faÿ-Hallé and Barbara Mundt, Porcelain of the Nineteenth Century, p. 155, fig. 269, 270 for a pair of biscuit medallions of Day and Night after the 1840 Thorwaldsen original. It is interesting to note that these biscuit tondi by Copenhagen enjoyed 'enormous success' and helped to spread the fame of Thorwaldsen's work.
