The present ewer, representing one of the four Elements, is after the set modelled by Johann Joachim Kändler in 1741 (see Meissen, Festive Publication, 1910, p. 34-35).

A full set of four 19th century Meissen ewers emblematic of the Elements was sold in an anon. sale Christie's, London, 19 October 1995, lot 97.
