Finely painted after Ruben's, A Lion Hunt, with turbaned and armored equestrian warriors ferociously battling wild felines, a fallen man being mauled by a lion to left, a vanquished leopard and a lioness with her cubs to right
12 x 14½in. (30.5 x 36.8cm.), within silk and giltwood frame

Lot Essay

A number of the studies for this work by Rubens were based on the fresco 'The Battle of Anghiari' by Leonardo da Vinci, which was destroyed in 1557.
