A Continental Rococo style giltwood and gesso console-table and mirror
Circa 1900
The rectangular bevelled mirror with acanthus and vine-carved frame, surmounted by a spreadwinged mythical beast and lion-mask crest, flanked by a further winged beast to each side, the bottom centred by a satyr mask, the console with serpentine-shaped velvet-lined top, above a pierced acanthus frieze centred by a lion mask, on hipped and scrolled legs carved with floral pendants and joined by an acanthus-sheathed scrolled 'X'-shaped stretcher surmounted by a mythical beast
The mirror: 70¼in. (178.5cm.) high; 43in. (109.1cm.) wide; The console: 40¾in. (103.5cm.) high; 56¾in. (144cm.) wide; 23½in. (59.6cm.) deep (2)
