A 15-Bore Flintlock Sporting Gun

With rebrowned twist barrel (surface pitted near the touch-hole), turned girdle and silver spider fore-sight, the octagonal breech with maker's stamp (gold lining missing) and gold-lined touch-hole, shaped tang with characteristic engraving, case-hardened flat lock with moulded border, stepped tail, safety-catch, roller, and third form of signature (cock an early working replacement), finely figured walnut half-stock (minor bruises) carved in relief with a shell behind the barrel tang, chequered grip with a dot in the centre of each diamond, blued iron mounts with typical engraving, the trigger-guard with second pattern acorn finial, horn fore-end cap, later horn-tipped ramrod with worm, and some original finish (rear of under-rib lifting), London proof marks
