A Very Fine 22-Bore D.B. Flintlock Turn-Over Fowling-Piece

With sighted barrels released by backward pressure on the front part of the trigger-guard, each barrel with sighting flat bearing a brass blade fore-sight flanked by engraved scrollwork, the breech sections each finely chiselled in relief with scrollwork and a differing standing figure of Mars, all on an engraved background, at the rear three facets stamped with four brass-lined marks of Daniel Thiermay (Neue Støckel 1085, 5971), iron tang retained by two screws and engraved with foliage and a bird, signed flat back-action lock with moulded border overlaid with engraved gilt-bronze and with faceted gilt-bronze pans, the cock and steels with chiselled foliate decoration in relief, moulded figured walnut full stock carved in relief with foliage and scrollwork, and a monster-head on each side of the butt, iron trigger-guard with applied engraved gilt-bronze panel, cast and engraved gilt-bronze mounts finely decorated in relief with masks, foliage, and portrait busts, the pierced side-plate involving a putto seated on a lion, the escutcheon with coronet above, four octagonal ramrod-pipes, original brass-capped wooden ramrod, and in very fine original condition throughout
