A Rare 16-Bore German Two-Shot Superimposed-Load Sporting Rifle
Circa 1700
With heavy swamped barrel cut with nine grooves and with sighting flat, chiselled in relief with foliage, and with a mask at the rear of the breech, brass fore-sight, chiselled blued iron two-leaf back-sight, engraved tang, engraved flat lock with moulded border and stepped tail, with boldly chiselled details, and divided steel-spring, the upper pan for the front charge pivoting on the same bolt as the steel and released by a spring-held catch, on the upper edge of the lock-plate a sliding safety-catch locking the steel, moulded figured walnut full stock with stepped apron at the barrel tang, and raised cheek-piece, boldly chiselled iron mounts decorated in relief with masks and foliage, wooden patch-box cover, iron sling mounts, set trigger, horn fore-end cap, and horn-tipped ramrod
