A Rare Pair Of 18-Bore Portuguese Miquelet-Lock Belt Pistols

With swamped two-stage barrels each chiselled in relief with a band of shells and scrolls in front of the girdle, the breech sections octagonal then sixteen-sided, and stamped with two gold-lined marks and five gold-lined decorative marks surmounted by gold-lined dots (some gold missing), pointed tangs finely engraved with shells and scrollwork, all on a punched ground, engraved locks each with maker's mark and with typical fluted fences each chiselled in relief against a gilt ground, the steels each signed and engraved 'P. 1780', moulded figured walnut full stocks (minor chips and bruising) each carved in relief with rococo ornament at the barrel tang, iron mounts engraved with flowers and foliage on a punched ground, pierced belt hooks en suite, and original iron-mounted ramrods, each with worm (finger pads removed, some minor pitting)
