An Unusual Pair Of 26-Bore Flintlock Box-Lock Pistols In A Cylindrical Japanned Tin Container

With case-hardened turn-off barrels heavily rifled with seven grooves and with a band of engraved ornament at the muzzle, brass actions signed within martial trophies, blued thumbpiece safety-catches also locking the steels, rollers, blued steel-springs and folding triggers, figured flat-sided walnut butts, and silver escutcheons, in almost unused condition: in their original crimson "shoddies", the container retaining its padlock and key, and lined in crimson velvet, the lid with maker's plaque of J.B. Johnstone, 27 Jermyn St. St. James's, London, the accessories comprising copper and brass three-way powder-flask, bullet mould, turnscrew, barrel key (repaired), and bag of lead balls, Tower private proof marks
