Each campana-form on a circular base with band of lobing, the part-lobed body with two leaf-clad reeded handles and gadrooned rim, engraved on both sides with armorials, the detachable rims and liners engraved with a crest, each marked on foot, liner and rim

Lot Essay

The arms are those of Cavendish with those of Compton in pretence, probably for the Hon. Henry Frederick Compton Cavendish, third son of George, 1st Earl of Burlington and his wife Elizabeth, daughter of Charles, 7th Earl of Northampton. A general in the army, and Colonel of the 2nd Dragoon Guards, he was born in 1789. He married in 1811, as his first wife, Sarah, daugher of William Augustus Fawkener. He died in 1873.
