Lot Essay

The present composition derives from Rembrandt's Self Portrait in a Cap in the Moa Museum, Japan (see J. Bruyn et al., A Corpus of Rembrandt Paintings, I, The Hague, Boston and London, 1982, p. 231, no. A22).
