Probably German, 19th century
In Renaissance style; rectangular on ball-and-claw feet, the lid and body applied with oval lapis lazuli panels within laurel leaf borders interspersed by red jasper columns, the hinged domed cover with a carrying handle, the gilt-metal interior etched with strapwork and arabesques, apparently unmarked
