The present figure is an example of the largest of the three sizes in which the model was produced. Conceived by Pierre Blondeau, it is from the first series of Enfants Boucher produced at Vincennes in 1752 and based on drawings by the noted French artist. A later example with slight variations in the bagpipe and in the basket of fruit and vegetables is in The Wrightsman Collection. See Carl C. Dauterman, The Wrightsman Collection, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, 1970, volume III, p. 283, no. 115 for an illustration of this example and a discussion of the difference between a cornemuse and a musette, the correct name for the instrument held by the young boy.
