Lot Essay

As shown in a perspective engraving for the projected appartement for the baronne de Bezenval de Bronstadt by Juste-Aurèle Meissonnier from circa 1735 (reproduced in B.G.B. Pallot, L'Art du Siège au XVIIIe Siècle en France, Tours, 1987, p. 120), such decorative urns could quite likely have been employed as overdoors when set back into a niche.
