Lot Essay

Sir Charles Waldstein was a prominant figure in artistic and archeological circles in Cambridge at the turn of the century, holding the Directorship of the Fitzwilliam Museum, the Readership in Classical Archaeology, the Slade Professorship, and other posts. It is not surprising that he was attracted by this fine example of Richmond in his 'Etruscan' mode.
We are grateful to Simon Reynolds for his help in preparing this entry.
