Oliver Cromwell the English soldier and statesman was Lord Protector of England from 1653-58. In 1620 he married Elizabeth Bourchier, the daughter of a prosperous London merchant. His third son, Richard (1626-1712), was an English statesman and briefly his father's successor as Lord Protector of England (1658-59).
Samuel Cooper was known to have worked for the Cromwell family from 1650.
