Further details
Princess Charlotte was the only child of the Prince of Wales, later King George IV. She married Prince Leopold George Frederick of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld, afterwards King Leopold I of the Belgians, in 1816. She died in childbirth the following year. She was much loved and deeply mourned, not least by her grandfather, George III, and the news of her untimely death plunged the old King into a paroxysm of grief.
