Lot Essay

Compare the pattern with tiles excavated at the Imperial Kilns, included in the exhibition Xuande Imperial Porcelain Excavated at Jingdezhen, Chang Foundation, 1998, illustrated in the Catalogue, p. 122, pl. F18-21, where the closest of this pattern is pl. F20.

Comparable square tiles were sold in these Rooms, all dated to the Zhengtong period: a single tile sold, 1 October 1991, lot 747; and a pair sold, 23 March 1993, lot 713.
