Lot Essay
A vase of similar size and colour from the collection of Dr. Alan E. Feen was included in the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco exhibition A Chorus of Colors, Chinese Glass from Three American Private Collections, 1995, Catalogue, no. 51. In the accompanying text, the author Claudia Brown suggests the link between monochrome glass and porcelain, comparing the colour of the glass vase to the soft blue porcelain glaze known as "claire de lune". The vase and the present lot are possibly two of the largest surviving pieces of Chinese glass.
