Lot Essay

Cf. a very similar pair, possibly from the same series, sold in these Rooms, 30 April 2000, lot 620. Work of this genre is not only highly expressive of the desire for longevity as symbolised by an abundant growth of lingzhi fungus and the fruiting peach tree but it also portrays an idealised tranquil existence, favoured by learned officials who yearned to escape the pressure of court life.

(US$65,000-90,000)
