Lot Essay

The study of the child in a high chair was used in Horemans' pictures of a mother sewing recorded in the Gemäldegalerie, Dresden, Die Staatliche Gemäldegalerie zu Dresden, Katalog der Alten Meister, Dresden, 1930, no. 1105, and a picture of family in an interior in the Landesmuseum, Oldenburg, D. Müller-Wulckow, Kunsthandwerk und heimatliche Altertümer, Oldenburg, 1938, p. 79. Horemans used the figure of the child in another picture which was sold at Christie's London, 11 July 1980, lot 97.
Peter-Jacob Horemans (1700-1776), brother of Jan-Josef, used the study in his picture of a tailor sold at Braam, Amsterdam, 27-28 March 1944, lot 13a.
