Lot Essay

Horemans used both figures in his picture recorded in the Museum der bildenden Künste, Leipzig, Verzeichnis des ausgestellten Kunstwerke, Leipzig, 1929, no. 554. The woman also appears in his picture of a company bowling outside an inn, sold at Bukowski, Stockholm, 29 November 1995, lot 232. He used the same figure in reverse in a picture recorded in the Szepmüvészeti Múzeum, Budapest, inv. no. 1495, catalogue, 1931, no. 618, indicating that the tracing on the verso is indeed autograph. A picture with the woman, attributed to the younger Horemans was sold at Christie's, 8 December 1995, lot 237.
