Lot Essay

Bosboom rarely depicted landscapes, and made these mostly while travelling or staying with friends in the countryside. Along with the watercolour and drawings from the Hans van Leeuwen Collection sold in these Rooms, 10 November 1999, lots 34-5, this is one of his few known landscape drawings. Others are published by C.H. Dinkelaar, D.L. Kaatman, Johannes Bosboom (1817-1891) Schilder van licht, schaduw en kleur, Laren, 1999.
