[HARDIN, John Wesley.]
Archive of manuscript documents relating to "State of Texas v.s. John Wesley Hardin" Case #1136 which came before the court in 1895, the year after he completed his 17 years at Hunstville. The case appears to revolve around the charge of carrying a pistol, the final disposition of which was the levy of a $25 fine. 22 pages in all, 16 pages folio, 4 partly printed documents in quarto, one octavo partly printed document and one smaller. Together the archive offers an interesting look inside the late 19th century legal proceedings surrounding one of the most notorious gunfighters of the American West, here on trial for carrying a gun. And the disposition? "We the jury in the above case find the defendant guilty as per charges prefered in the indictment and fix the penalty at Twenty five dollars fine F. Moor foreman."
Provenance: Ronald J. Atlas collection. (22)
