Lot Essay

Wang Hui was a native of Changshu in Jiangsu Province. His zi was Shigu and his hao were Gengyan Sanren and Qinghui Zhuren. Wang Hui's talent in painting was first recognized by Wang Jian, who accepted him as his student and introduced him to Wang Shimin. He studied landscape painting of the Tang and Song Dynasties and reproduced many of the masterpieces of past painters. Wang Hui led a successful life in painting and later he became the founder of the Yushan School. He specialized in landscape painting and enjoyed fame as a superb artist with a refreshing and elegant style.
