Lot Essay

Native of Taicang (according to some sources Wujiang), in Jiangsu Province, Gu Jianlong lived most of his life in Wu county. His zi were Yun Chen and Yun Cheng. Gu Jianlong was a court painter for the Kangxi emperor and mainly painted figures and flowers. He became very well-known though, for his historical paintings and copies of master painters from earlier Dynasties.
