18 February 1789:"We breakfasted very early & spent the Day at the Jummaigh Musjiid, built by Shah Jehan".
Built in 1650-56 and situated to the west of the Red Fort, the Jami Masjid is the largest mosque in India. Daniell was so impressed by its grandeur that he chose his view of the Eastern Gate of the mosque to be the very first print of the Oriental Scenery. (2)
