Lot Essay

We are grateful to Mr. Fred Meijer of the RKD for the attribution; he regards the painting as a 'characterstic, fairly early work' of the artist, and compares it to de Claeuw's painting in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam (inv. no. A1444), which is indistinctly dated 16(50).
