20 July 1792: "In this view, taken in the district of Tinnevelly, the Fort of Cheval-Pettore is a conspicuous object...The ramparts... are formed of mud, a material very commonly used in India in the constructions of walls for various purposes, though to an European ear it conveys no idea of stability...Baked in the fierce rays of an almost vertical sun, ...put to the a severe test by our artillery [they have been] found equal, if not superior, even to masonry". The fort of Srivilliputtur has since been pulled down.
July 1792:"Shevagurry is a small village, residence of a Poligar rajah, tributary to the British government"
