This watercolour originally came from an album of drawings by William and his brother Thomas Prinsep (1800-1830). The album page was numbered 28 and inscribed as title and further inscribed 'Pulwars stern... head The safest & best kind of boat for burden' (left) and 'a dingee under sail a puddah boat for handnet & line fishing very fast in pulling'. The two brothers came from a remarkable family tree generations of which went to India between 1770 and 1904. For information on the artist see note following lot 95.
