gouache heightened with gold on paper, in a courtyard by a garden and fountain, two learned men sit in discussion in a small pavillion with books before them, seven attendants stand nearby, gold margin between black rules, blue outer rule, inscription below, verso with 27ll. black naskh, gold margins with blue outer rule, mounted in blue brocade and glazed, (very light flaking, rubbing and spotting, small worm holes to border) - minature 20.5 x 12.5cm., text 19.8 x 10.5cm., leaf 29.8 x 17.8cm.

By repute: bought in Paris circa 1920 and thence by descent.

The inscription below reads 'Bhrigu asked Bharad Vaga some questions on the creation of this universe and Bharad Vaga gave him satisfactory answers'. Although Bharad Vaga was a sage, in this situation (ch.182 of Shanti Parva of the Mahabarata), he is the disciple of Bhrigu.
