Lot Essay

A fine association copy. According to the letter by William Daniell laid into this copy, the book was sent to the editor of the Literary Gazette in thanks for the positive review of his "humble efforts in art." The Daniells published this smaller version of their great folio edition of Oriental Scenery to make it available to a wider audience. The work was "undoubtedly responsible for the influence of Indian culture on the [British] architects of the day" (Abbey 420). Abbey Travel 432.
