Thomas Daniell and his nephew William undertook their voyage to India in April 1785 aboard the Indiaman Atlas, via China; they returned in 1794. The plates illustrate the outward journey from Gravesend, around the Cape of Good Hope, through islands of Indonesia, via China, to arrive at Calcutta. Lipperheide Le 22; Tooley 173; Abbey Travel 516.
