Lot Essay

This model with reference 3969 is a reproduction of the jump hour watch made by Patek Philippe in the 1920's. It was made in a limited series of 450 pieces in pink gold and 50 pieces in platinum to celebrate the company's 150th Anniversary in 1989.

The particularity of a jump hour lies in its unusual mechanism and appearance. The hours are indicated by a little wheel turning underneath a window. The wheel rotates every time the minute hand, set within the centre of the dial, hits the full hour. The tonneau-shaped case was a typical design of the 1920's and is currently reliving a nostalgic popularity.

A similar watch is illustrated in Patek Philippe Wristwatches, second edition, by Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, p. 121.
