Lot Essay

This table à écrire is related to the oeuvre of Nicolas Pierre Severin. Appointed maître in 1757, Severin worked from the rue Dauphine and, like Levasseur, Montigny and Georges Jacob, was employed by the Garde-Meuble on the repair of Louis XIV Boulle furniture. He specialised in pictorially-veneered furniture, although these architectural capriccii were probably supplied by a specialist marqueteur. A table en chiffonière with related scenes is illustrated in P. Kjellberg, Le Mobilier Francais du XVIII Siècle, Paris, 1989, p.19 and 821).
