The later eared rounded breakfront Cipollino mandolato verde marble top above a pierced foliate frieze with lappeted and beaded border, the sides concave, on scrolled channelled tapering legs headed by acanthus with foliate-clasped feet, the outer back legs turned and fluted and with spirally-reeded feet headed by foliate panels, re-gilt, with remains of paper label to the underside of the marble and inscribed '...BAKER ST N. Marm.../17O7/391...', restorations and refreshments to gilding

Lot Essay

With its distinctive 'pieds en console', this console epitomises the antique style promoted by Georges Jacob (maître in 1765) circa 1775. A closely related console from the collection of Mae C. Rovensky was sold at Parke-Bernet, 15-19 January 1957, lot 780.
